Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ’s)

  • When is the soonest I can book my Mummy MOT?

From 6-8 weeks postnatal. It is best to have your 6 week check with your GP prior to attending.

This will allow soft tissue to be healed and more comfortable.

  • What happens at the appointment?

We will go through questions to help understand what your symptoms are and likely drivers to these symptoms. It will help to direct the assessment.

  • How many sessions will I need?

This depends on you and your personal circumstances.

We will discuss this at your initial assessment and all women are different. Some come once, some like to check in regularly for progressions and technique and some come every now and then.

  • Do I need to bring anything with me to the appointment?

    No.

If possible, wearing loose fitting clothing that is comfortable for you to move around in is great. A vest top or sports bra is useful when looking at posture, neck/shoulder/back pain and assessing how you move.

  • Can I bring my baby/toddler/child with me?

    Of course!

I know that Mums don’t always have someone to look after their little one to attend a 75 min appointment, therefore little ones are welcome.

Bringing something they like to play with, snacks or anything that they like can help to keep them occupied.

I’ve had a cuddle with a baby or few in my time and very happy to do so again (and again, and again!).

  • Will there be a vaginal or pelvic floor muscle assessment?

It depends on your symptoms and what you want.

Lots of information can be gained from an internal pelvic floor muscle assessment which can be the root of your symptoms. However, not everyone wants an internal examination and not everyone therefore has one.

If indicated, the internal examination will be discussed in detail and full (verbal and written), informed (you know what the assessment contains) consent is always gained first.

  • Is what I tell you confidential?

    Absolutely!

The only time information MAY be shared is with your express consent or if deemed medically necessary for safety issues for you.

Information would only be shared with medical professionals eg GP, Consultant, Nurse Specialist, Specialist Physiotherapist or similar.

  • I had a baby 3 years ago, can I still benefit from a Mummy MOT?

    100%

Assessment is tailored to you so if you’re struggling with bladder leaking, we adjust the assessment towards that. If it’s returning to sport and feeling a heaviness, we adjust to that.

It might just be that you have found the time to set aside for you and want to invest time into your future body.

A Mummy MOT is just a fancy name for a check, of what you need and what your symptoms are.
